Scheduled Maintenance at NIX1 - February 13th 07:00-08:00 CET

Maintenance Details:

Date: February 13th
Time: 07:00 - 08:00

Impact:
NIX1, all sites
BGP sessions will be drained and redirected to your alternative paths.

Purpose:
The primary objective of this maintenance activity is to prepare our infrastructure for 400G support by upgrading our network switches.

Technical procedure:
To ensure a seamless transition and minimal disruption, we will implement BGP session culling in accordance with [RFC 8327](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc8327).

1) BGP Session Culling Process: Before any physical changes are made, we will initiate the culling of BGP sessions, strategically withdrawing route advertisements to prompt traffic rerouting. This preemptive step ensures that network traffic is gracefully redirected.

2) Confirmation and Wait Time: Following the session culling, we will confirm that traffic has been successfully rerouted. We will monitor traffic to ensure stability and verify that rerouting processes have completed.

3) Physical Port Changes: Once traffic has been confirmed to be rerouted and stable, we will proceed with the physical changes to the ports. This step will complete the upgrade to our infrastructure links.

Communication:
To keep you updated during the maintenance window, live updates will be provided in the #ops channel on the NONOG Slack. You can access it at nonog-community.slack.com.Let us know if you have any questions or feedback: nix-drift@usit.uio.no
