History of NIX
The first version of "NIX" was established in March 1993, and powered up on Tuesday March 30th. The interconnect was at this point a piece of thin coax, and the first customers each connected to this coax cable with a Cisco IGS router.
The first companies at NIX were:
- Uninett (IGS connected via ethernet to their AGS located at USIT)
- TelePost Communications (IGS connected via fiber to their router at Forskningsparken)
- EUnet (IGS connected via fiber to their router at Forskningsparken)
A while later (around 1994) the coax was replaced by a SMC TigerSwitch, and the following companies were connected:
- Tele2
- Oslonett
